Most people don't arrive at AI consulting by way of pre-med studies and web development — but most people aren't wired to keep rebuilding the thing they're standing on. Joe Mildenberger started building websites before the term "user experience" had been coined, back when the craft meant hand-coding HTML and arguing with browser rendering engines. That foundation — the instinct to build rather than buy, to architect rather than administer — turns out to be everything when it comes to designing AI systems that actually work.

For twenty years at The Standard, he wore enough hats to stock a haberdashery: marketing technologist, systems analyst, digital developer, and whatever the moment demanded. It was less a single career than a masterclass in how marketing organizations actually function — the workflows nobody documents, the integrations nobody owns, the decisions that fall between every team's Venn diagram. That kind of cross-functional fluency doesn't come from certifications. It comes from decades of being the person who says, "I'll just build it."

Portland-raised and perpetually curious, Joe is as likely to be found dialing in a homebrew recipe or casting from a kayak on a quiet river as he is architecting an AI agent pipeline.
